Overdrive

By Pastor Steve Kelly / Books /

Whether traveling abroad as a missionary or as a tourist, our experience is always improved by understanding the culture of the place we are visiting. In order to fully engage a native population, be it Iceland or Indonesia, we will only connect as much as we understand losartan 100 mg.

When we travel, we defer to the local customs and we sacrifice our comforts and conveniences to experience life as it is lived abroad. Isn’t it remarkable what we are willing to overlook and even sacrifice (electricity, running water, etc.) in order to engage with the local people? I believe that the Holy Spirit, without compromising God’s truths, behaves in the same way, and is calling us to do the same.

At Wave Church, we take every opportunity to connect to our community, without compromising the truth of God’s Word. Halloween is often attacked by Christians, but we turn it into an opportunity to meet our neighbors. The Easter bunny isn’t in the Bible, but that doesn’t mean we have to ridicule the traditions that everyone shares in the community around us. Only when we stop isolating and excluding ourselves will we become relevant to and influential upon our culture.

When we engage without compromise, we see increased salvations and miracles. Though we are not of this world, we are in it, and God asks us to make the most of our time here, by “mak(ing) disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

I encourage you to think about the strategic choice God made to have you be alive at this time, in this culture. What are some ways you can reach out to your neighbors and community? I encourage you to understand the culture around you, engage with those in the world, and influence them for Jesus. The Holy Spirit is willing and ready, are you?
